My first attempt is likely the same as most players will do... Flash combo, Even with all the good tutors is still pretty rough to set up, I took my old bubble hulk deck and added 20 lands, 4x flash and 26 other cards (ALL the good tutors and Dragon combo pieces) and even with 2 easy to assemble combos it only fell together 1 in 5 games Deckbuilding is certainly more interesting

August 4, 2005, in an article on Five Color I advocate that I'd like to see teh size of the decks increased. I mean, if we are pulling out things from 6 months ago, I can pull out my claim from four years ago, right? ;)

Didn't you suggest that you wanted 100 cards added Abe, and then an additional 50 cards added each year thereafter?

did we test like 30 cards of each color before deciding to go to 300 cards or was it just a random thought? I'm just curious how it was decided, I'm hoping testing was involved

Upping the size of the decks has been talked about since at least 2005, I remember the original discussion (I think) came at the same time the minimum color requirements were raised from 18. There has been a good amount of testing on the subject, and not just an arbitrary choice. With that said, we have talked about going up higher in the future as needed.

Will is a bit harder to answer then Flash, 321 aggro is still pretty nuts and fills out easy at 300 cards. Bargain is legal which has me thinking I need to see my doctor right away cause I've had an erection lasting 36 hours after seeing that. Also there are people who seem to think LftL.dec is just the stone cold nuts even at 300 cards. I think some decks take a bigger hit then others in deck building.

I think in the 40 or so games I've tested I've Loam locked my opponent once. I think that is perfectly fair.

The deck size increased by 1/6th.. Mystical Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Consultation, Gifts Ungiven (albeit slow) were added, but more importantly Crucible of Worlds was added - opening up a whole new revenue of tutors to fetch the artifact version of Loam. Given that I had statistics (nay college algebra would have sufficed) it seems pretty obvious that Loam lock just got easier to accomplish. I find it odd that out of 40 games you only got it off once.. were you actively trying and did you add all the appropriate tutors?

I'm sure disruption comes into play in trying to fish out the combo. Even with the added goodies it still can't be the best combo deck or even come close to it because the "combo" still doesn't win the game making it worse then other combo decks that are already present.

Add in that despite adding in the 8 or so tutors that we brought back that can get lftl, the 42 other cards we added greatly hinder the ability to get both pieces running. Add that to the fact that both players had loam one game and neither had a strip/waste. The card is like most of the other cards that moved position on the list, they're good enough to occasionally win games, but not good enough to win every game in the new format.

Plus graveyard hate is everywhere, man. Relics, Tormod's Crypt, Phyrexian Furnace, Ebony Charm, Krosan Reclamation. There's a lot of dealies. It might be tough to actually hit the LftL, but it can't be that hard. Still sounds fun, though.

rethinking that last post . . . I guess LtfL decks run instant speed card draw to get it back if someone tries to remove it from the game. Disregard the previous post. Although I suppose it is possible to catch someone off guard with one or two remove from game effects. Oh, you can just hit the lands. Reregard.
